Chef Pepper Terms of Service

What Chef Pepper is, what it is not, and what each of us is responsible for.

These terms are the agreement between you and Simply In Depth Ltd for using Chef Pepper. By creating an account you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not create one.

How your data is handled is a separate document: the privacy policy.

1. The short version

This is a summary, not a substitute for what follows.

Chef Pepper writes recipes using an AI model. It can be wrong. You are the cook, and the judgement in the kitchen is yours.
Check anything that matters for safety yourself — allergens, cooking temperatures, whether the chicken is done. Tell Chef Pepper your allergies and it will try to respect them, but it is not a substitute for reading the label.
Chef Pepper is not medical, dietary or nutritional advice.
Recipes cost Chef Credits. You buy them through Google Play, and Google handles refunds.
What you write stays yours. Publishing it gives us permission to show it, nothing more.
Be decent to other cooks. We can remove content and close accounts.
You can delete your account at any time, from inside the app.

2. Your account

You need an account, because the app cooks using a service we pay for.

You must be at least 13 years old.
Sign in is handled by Google Play. Keep your Google account secure; anyone who can sign in as you can use your credits.
One person, one account. Do not create accounts to evade a suspension or to collect free allowances repeatedly.
You are responsible for what happens under your account.

You can delete your account from Profile → Delete account. It is immediate and it cannot be undone. What is deleted and what survives is set out in the privacy policy and on the account deletion page.

3. What Chef Pepper is, and what it is not

Chef Pepper sends what you ask for to an AI model and turns the answer into a structured recipe: ingredients, tools, preparation, steps, timings, temperatures, visual cues and an estimate of nutrition.

It is generated, not tested. Nobody cooked the recipe before you did. The model is probabilistic: the same question can produce different answers, and an answer that reads with complete confidence can still be wrong. Quantities can be off. A step can be missing. A temperature or a time can be wrong. An ingredient can be described as suitable for you when it is not.

Nutrition figures are estimates. They are produced by the same model, from the ingredient list, without weighing anything. Do not rely on them for anything that matters clinically.

We do not promise the service will always be available, or that any particular answer will be accurate, complete or suitable for you.

4. Cooking safely — the part that actually matters

Food can make people ill, and cooking involves heat, knives and machinery. You are responsible for what happens in your kitchen.

Allergies and intolerances. Chef Pepper takes the allergies in your cooking profile into account, and we have built it to treat them as a hard constraint rather than a preference. It can still get it wrong, and it has no idea what is in the packet in your hand. Read the labels. If a reaction would be serious, do not rely on an app to catch it.
Cooking temperatures and doneness. Use a thermometer and your own knowledge of safe temperatures, whatever a step says.
Storage, reheating and raw ingredients. Follow the food-safety guidance for your country.
Substitutions. If you swap an ingredient, the timings, temperatures and safety notes may no longer hold.
Supervision. Do not leave a hob, oven or fryer unattended because a timer is running in an app. Cooking Mode timers are a convenience, not a safety device, and a phone can lock, crash or run out of battery.

If a recipe tells you to do something that seems wrong, it is wrong. Trust your own judgement.

5. Not medical or dietary advice

Chef Pepper is a cooking app.

Nothing it produces — including recipes described as lower in sodium, and including nutrition estimates — is medical, dietary or nutritional advice, and none of it is a diagnosis, treatment or management plan for any condition.

Lower-sodium cooking in Chef Pepper means culinary technique: building flavour with browning, aromatics, herbs, spices, acids and reduction rather than salt. It is not a therapeutic diet, it is not tailored to a clinical limit, and it is not supervised by anyone qualified to do so.

If you are cooking to a limit set by a doctor or dietitian, follow their advice and check recipes against it. If you have a medical condition affected by what you eat, speak to a professional. Never disregard professional advice because of something an app generated.

6. Chef Credits

Chef Credits are what the app spends to produce an answer, because each one costs us money to generate.

A price is quoted before the work happens, and the amount reserved is the most it can cost. Unused reservation is released.
Questions have a free daily allowance. Past it, a question is charged rather than refused — a wall coming down mid-recipe with a pan on the heat is a worse failure than the charge.
Credits have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred between accounts.
Credits are a licence to use the service up to a limit, not a currency and not property.
Deleting your account destroys your balance, including credits you have paid for. The app tells you so before you confirm.
We may change what an operation costs, and the free allowance, as the underlying costs change. We will not retroactively charge you for something already produced.

If a request fails through our fault, the reservation is released and you are not charged. If you believe you were charged for something you did not get, email support@simplyindepth.com with the date and what you asked for.

7. Subscriptions and purchases

Credits and any subscription are sold through Google Play, under Google's payment terms. We never see your card details.

Prices and what each product contains are shown in the app at the time of purchase.
A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. You cancel it in Google Play — under Subscriptions in the Play Store app — not in Chef Pepper, and not by deleting your account. Deleting your Chef Pepper account does not cancel a Play subscription.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not shorten the period you have already paid for.
A purchase is granted once Google confirms it to our server. If a grant does not complete, Google refunds it rather than us keeping it.

8. Refunds

Refunds are handled by Google Play, under Google's refund policy, and that is the route to use. We can ask Google to refund a purchase, and we will where something went wrong at our end.

Where the law gives you a right to cancel or a right to a refund, that right stands, whatever the rest of this section says. In the UK and EU you have a statutory right to cancel a digital purchase within 14 days — except where you asked for it to be delivered immediately and acknowledged that you would lose that right, which is what buying credits and spending them does. Nothing here removes your statutory rights as a consumer.

What you create stays yours. Your recipes, photographs, notes, comments and profile text are your content. We do not claim ownership of any of it.

Publishing gives us permission to show it. When you publish a recipe to Discover, share it by link, or write a comment, you give Simply In Depth Ltd a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display that content in Chef Pepper, for as long as you keep it published, so that the app can do the thing you asked it to do. That licence ends when you take the content down or delete your account, except for copies already lawfully made by other people — a recipe someone saved to their own cookbook is theirs to keep.

What publishing means, plainly. A published recipe is public and it names you: your display name and your UID. A comment is public and carries the same. Your allergies and dietary restrictions are never shown. This is set out in full in the privacy policy.

You are promising you may publish it. By publishing, you confirm the content is yours, or that you have the right to publish it, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

We may remove content, and we may decline to publish it, where it breaks these terms or the law. We are not obliged to host anything.

Other people's recipes. A recipe someone else published is theirs. Cook it, save it, adapt it for yourself; do not pass it off as your own elsewhere.

Copyright complaints. If something in Chef Pepper infringes your copyright, email support@simplyindepth.com with enough detail to identify the work and where it appears, and we will look at it.

10. Acceptable use

Do not use Chef Pepper to:

Publish anything unlawful, abusive, harassing, hateful, sexual, or targeting a person.
Publish anything dangerous dressed up as a recipe — instructions intended to harm someone, deliberately unsafe food handling, or anything involving a controlled substance.
Impersonate another person, or misrepresent who wrote something.
Spam Discover, or publish content that is advertising rather than cooking.
Attack the service: probing for vulnerabilities, circumventing limits, scraping, automating requests, or reselling access.
Extract the underlying model's behaviour for another purpose, or use Chef Pepper to build a competing service.
Evade a block or a suspension.

Blocking is not reporting. Blocking another cook stops you seeing each other and removes nothing. If something should not be there at all, report it — that reaches a person.

11. Reports, suspension and closing an account

We review reports and we act on them. Depending on what we find we may remove content, unpublish a recipe, restrict an account, or close it.

Where we can, we will tell you what happened and why.
We may act immediately and without notice where there is a risk to somebody, or to the service.
If we close your account, you lose your credit balance. We will not do that as a way of taking your money, and where we close an account for a reason that is not your fault we will refund the unspent balance through Google.

You can close your own account at any time, from inside the app.

12. Our intellectual property

Chef Pepper — the app, its name, its design, its interface and everything in it that is not your content or another cook's — belongs to Simply In Depth Ltd. These terms give you permission to use the app, and nothing else. Do not copy it, decompile it, or reuse parts of it, except where the law says you may regardless.

Recipes Chef Pepper writes for you are yours to use. Cook them, keep them, publish them, print them, put them on a card. We do not claim them. Be aware that a generated recipe is not necessarily original, that we cannot promise nobody else has received something similar, and that we make no claim about whether such a recipe can be copyrighted.

13. Changing the service, and these terms

Chef Pepper changes. We add things, remove things, and occasionally change what something costs. We may suspend or stop the service, or any part of it.

If we change these terms we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change matters. If you keep using Chef Pepper after a change takes effect, you accept it. If you do not accept it, delete your account.

If we stop the service altogether, we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to get your recipes out, and we will refund unspent credits where we can.

14. Third parties

Chef Pepper relies on Supabase, OpenAI and Google Play. Their failures can become your experience of ours, and we do not control them. The privacy policy names what each one receives.

15. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any other liability the law does not permit us to exclude. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

Subject to that:

Chef Pepper is provided as it is. We do not warrant that generated content is accurate, complete, safe or suitable for you.
We are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these terms, or for loss arising from your failure to follow the food-safety responsibilities in section 4.
We are not liable for content published by other cooks.
Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or £50.

Chef Pepper is for personal, domestic use. If you use it for a business, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business or loss of goodwill.

16. General

Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you can bring proceedings there.
Severability. If part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
No waiver. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given it up.
Whole agreement. These terms and the privacy policy are the agreement between us about Chef Pepper.
Transfer. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours, for example if the business is sold, and not in a way that reduces your rights.
